Micromax Unveils the Ignite and Alpha Laptops in India
Micromax, the Indian smartphone manufacturer is trying out different arenas, apart from the smartphone segment. We’ve seen the brand entering the consumer appliances market by launching Smart TV’s as well as Air conditioners. Micromax has now announced the launch of two new laptop series to its existing computing range; the Micromax Ignite and Micromax Alpha. The Micromax Ignite series packs a good set of hardware in a not-so-expensive price point. The laptop features a 14-inch HD display. There's also a 1-megapixel webcam for Skype. Under the hood the machine is rocking an Intel Pentium N3700 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. For storage, the machine packs a decent 1TB hard drive. The machine also comes with Windows 10 out-of-the-box. For I/O, the Ignite comes with 2 USB 3.0 ports, one HDMI port and an Ethernet port for connecting to the internet. Powering the Ignite is a 4500mAh battery. The specifications on the machine are similar to what major laptop brands such as Asus, Lenovo offer, at a rather similar price point. So it’ll be interesting to see how Micromax competes against the big guys. This specific segment is a strong one, considering many consumers with a low budget are trying to get their first PC. This also includes students who want a bang for their buck - a machine with hardware to combat their multitasking requirements. Micromax Ignite will be available exclusively on Flipkart from 25 July 2016 at competitive price point of Rs 18,990. Earlier this year, Micromax had also unveiled the Canvas Laptab and Lapbook in India which were powered by an Intel Atom processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The Laptab was a convertible with a touch screen whereas the Lapbook was a mini-netbook meant for browsing and casual word processing. Both these machines were running with official Windows 10 OS and supported Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
